Ijebu-Ode Campus – Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences (OGCON)
The Ijebu-Ode Campus of the Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences holds the distinction of being the oldest nursing training institution in Ogun State, with its origins dating back to 1949. It was the first school of nursing established by the Ogun State Government and, for decades, operated as a hospital-based training institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Health (MOH).
During this period, students were trained primarily within the hospital setting and graduated with a professional nursing certificate awarded by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
Over the years, the school has undergone significant transformation in line with the NMCN’s policy to upgrade all schools of nursing into degree-awarding institutions. Today, the Ijebu-Ode Campus operates as a fully accredited arm of the Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences, offering modern, comprehensive nursing education.
The campus is strategically located at Oguntuga Street, off Omo-Owo Road, beside Ogun State Dental Clinic, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, and continues to uphold its legacy of excellence in training highly skilled and professional nurses for the healthcare sector.
Idi-Aba Abeokuta Campus – Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences (OGCON)
Established in 1976 as an offshoot of the School of Nursing Eleyele under the old Western State, the Idi-Aba Abeokuta Campus has been a cornerstone of nursing education for nearly five decades. For much of its history, it operated as a hospital-based training institution under the Ministry of Health, awarding only the professional nursing certificate from the NMCN.
In line with the NMCN’s reform policy to place all nursing schools under the formal education sector, the Idi-Aba Abeokuta Campus evolved into a fully accredited College of Nursing Sciences campus. It now offers upgraded academic programmes where certificates hold greater academic value while maintaining its tradition of excellence.
The School of Nursing Idi-Aba, now the Idi-Aba Campus of Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences, is located at 49WH+6QX, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta 110118, Ogun State, Nigeria, along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway, near the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Abeokuta.
Ilaro Campus – Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences (OGCON)
The Ogun State Government established the nursing school in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area, during the 2003/2004 academic session. The vision behind its creation was to promote balanced educational development across all zones of the state while also creating employment opportunities for Ogun State citizens.
The institution operated from 2004 until early 2008 but was temporarily closed due to non-compliance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) standards required for establishing a nursing school. Accreditation teams from the NMCN visited in 2006, 2007, and 2009, identifying several deficiencies that needed urgent attention.
In early 2010, a follow-up accreditation visit revealed that all earlier shortcomings had been addressed through the intervention and support of the then-state government. As a result, the school was granted provisional accreditation to continue its basic nursing education programme.
A subsequent accreditation exercise in 2021 brought even greater achievements. The school’s admission quota was increased to 75 students, and it was awarded full accreditation status, marking a major milestone in its growth.
Today, the institution has transitioned from a school to a full-fledged College of Nursing Sciences, following the NMCN’s directive to upgrade all nursing schools to meet higher educational standards. The Ilaro campus remains fully accredited and continues to operate under the Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences, maintaining its commitment to excellence in nursing education.
The Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences, Ilaro Campus, is strategically located in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area, Ogun State, Nigeria, near the General Hospital Ilaro, along the Ilaro–Owode Road.
